Cons

  • Overly simple mini games can make them boring after a while.

Grand Theft Auto: iFruit is a companion game for Rockstar's popular GTA V video game. If you love the main game, this free mobile companion is worth checking out. You can use it to access the Rockstar Social Club, get news and updates on upcoming products, buy related merchandise and play two fun mini games.

Take Your GTA V Experience With You

As you may have guessed, the iFruit name is a parody of Apple's popular iPhone. When you open the game, you'll be greeted with a familiar imitation of the iOS interface that displays the main functions of the game.

The Social Club is where you go to sign in with your existing Rockstar Social Club account. It shows you the latest news and updates related to GTA V and other Rockstar games. You can use this section to edit some of your in-game information if you've linked your game to your Rockstar Social Club screen name.

By opening up the Lifeinvader virtual app, you will be taken to the fictional social network used in GTA V, which is an obvious parody of Facebook. Lifeinvader lets you have some humorous interactions with residents and businesses in Los Santos. It also has a more practical role, as you can get in-game bonus items and discounts by pressing the "Stalk" button on various Lifeinvader pages, just like you would follow people on Facebook in real life.

The Store app is just a Grand Theft Auto merchandise outlet where you can buy real items. Games, clothing and accessories, posters and other items from the GTA series and other Rockstar franchises are offered here. Though the in-game app isn't much different from Rockstar's web store, you may find special deals on selected items from time to time.

Fun GTA V Style Mini Games Await

While you will see icons for GTA III and Vice City, these simply take you to the Google Play pages where you can buy them. Los Santos Customs and Chop the Dog are the two free mini games included in Grand Theft Auto: iFruit.

Los Santos Customs takes you to a garage where you can pimp your digital ride. It offers you many customization options for cars belonging to the three main characters in the game. You can even create a customized license plate, which is an interesting feature as it isn't offered in the main game.

Chop the Dog is the most entertaining part of the companion game. It opens up a game with graphics similar to other virtual pet apps. This is where you'll train, play with and take care of Chop, the canine companion of GTA V character Franklin. As you start playing, you'll quickly see that despite the cute appearance, the game fits in perfectly with the adult humor found in GTA V.

By keeping Chop the rottweiler happy and training him, he becomes a more valuable ally in the game and can find some rare virtual items. Chop the Dog also lets you take your canine companion on several missions. Keep an eye on him, as he tends to mate or fight with other dogs and likes to pull bikinis off ladies when taken to the beach.

While the mini games are fun to play, their simple nature can make them lose their entertainment value among some players. But for a free app, Grand Theft Auto: iFruit is still very good and any fan of GTA V will find at least a bit of fun in it.
